If you
work with kids, you know how important a good example can be.
The Texas Environmental Excellence Awards program recognizes the good works of youth organizations and kids to preserve and protect the environment in communities across Texas.
If you are involved in a youth project that benefits the environment,
think about applying for a Texas Environmental Excellence Award.
The Youth category was created specifically to highlight the efforts
of our state’s youngest citizens — and their mentors
— to prevent pollution, reduce waste and recycle as much
as possible.
Celebrate the environmental achievements of kids in your world.
Enter to win a Texas
Environmental Excellence Award, presented each year by the Texas
Commission on Environmental Quality. Winners receive:
- a 90-second video profile of your project,
- publicity for their project and organization, and
- recognition at the TCEQ awards banquet in Austin in May.
Deadline to submit applications for the 2006 awards is November
4, 2005.
For more information, to view videos of last year’s

Hannah
Greer was only 8 when she came up with the idea to start a
recycling program in her rural school district. You’re never
too young — or too old — to initiate a youth project
for the environment. Here are some of the youth projects the TCEQ
has recognized over the years:
- a school wide project to create an 8-acre nature trail and
outdoor classroom on the grounds of Highland
Lakes Elementary School in Marble Falls;
- an education
outreach project that teaches kids in the Rio Grande Valley
the importance of water quality and pollution prevention; and
- a habitat restoration project at Carver Center in Midland-Odessa.
In all, more than 100 projects have been recognized over the
program’s history. Be a part of that legacy. Apply
today for a Texas Environmental Excellence Award.
